France is the only European Country opposing the everlasting rivalry between Italy and the Netherlands in the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) Champions Cup. The Rouen Huskies made it to the medal round together with 2 Italian teams (Rimini Pirates and UnipolSai Bologna) and the Dutch hosts Curaçao Neptunus Rotterdam. The games for the title are scheduled for the weekend.
Rouen beat, 8-1, L&D Amsterdam (The Netherlands), thanks to a complete game by Team France starter Owen Ozanich, and Voith Heidenheim (Germany), 6-2, on a solid pitching performance (2 runs in 8.1 inning) by Yoann Vaugelade. They will face in the semifinal the defending Champions Neptunus Rotterdam, that went undefeated in group B.
The second seed out of group B is UnipolSai Bologna. They lost, 5-4, a close game for first place against Rotterdam.
Bologna will face Rimini in the other semifinal. The Pirates, the defending Italian Champions, outscored Rouen, 12-5, then surrendered to Heidenheim, 3-1. Veteran Panagiotis Sykaras, who played for Godo, Rimini and Grosseto in the Italian Baseball League and represented Greece in the Athens Olympics, pitched 3.1 innings for the win. Rimini picked their pass to the semifinal as they defeated Amsterdam and veteran starter Rob Cordemans, 3-2.
