Four of the five best teams in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking will play the 2018 Japan Cup, starting tomorrow. Australia, Chinese Taipei, Japan and USA will close their 2018 season in Takasaki City, Japan, in the eleventh edition of this event.

The teams will compete in a single round robin on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the nations with the third and fourth best records will play in the Bronze Medal game at 1 p.m. local time, while the Gold Medal Game between the No. 1 and No. 2 seed will take place at 4 p.m.

The games will be broadcasted through BS Japan.

The four teams will be back in Japan after being present in the 2018 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship last August. USA defeated Japan in the finale in a dramatic fashion, repeating the world title with a thrilling 10-inning, 7-6 victory over the host team. Australia finished in fourth place, while Chinese Taipei ended at ninth position.

Japan (host) and USA are the only two teams qualified for the softball’s historic return to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020; while Australia and Chinese Taipei will face a key year in 2019, looking to clinch the Asia Oceania berth in the next Olympic competition.
