The fourth season of the Taiwan Professional Women’s Softball League (TPWSL) is underway, with a total of six participating teams, including the Chinese Taipei Junior National Team who joined the league this year to tune up for the WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup, to be held in Irvine, California, from 10-17 August.
The Chinese Taipei National Team will compete during the TPWSL season aiming to get ready for their third medal at the WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup, as they earned bronze in 1999 as host team, and 2011 in South Africa. The Asian nation will open the global battle in Group D, along with Canada, Netherlands and New Zealand.
The WBSC Secretary General, Beng Choo Low, was present at the Taichung Wan-Shou Baseball Stadium for the TPWSL Opening Day on 27 April. The league, founded in 2016, will finish on 15 September, after 90 regular-season games.
The participating teams of the 2019 TPWSL include the defending champions Caesar Warriors; ChiaNan Eagles; Taiwan Insurance Bulldogs; New Century Wasps; XinLiWang Lion and the aforementioned Chinese Taipei Junior National Team.
With 21 games played so far, New Century Wasps leads the standings with a 6-1 record. They are followed by the Eagles (5-3), Lion (4-3), Fighting Dogs (3-4), Warriors (2-5) and Chinese Taipei Junior National Team (1-4).
Last year, the Warriors took the TPWSL title over the Eagles in a seven-game final series.
