Cuba swept the 3 game baseball series played in the Denis Martinez stadium in Managua against Nicaragua.

Cuba won, 6-4, game one despite a slow start by Lazaro Blanco, who allowed 4 runs in the second. Alain Sanchez pitched 4.2 innings in relief and picked the win. Cuba took the lead in the fourth as offense got to starter Wilton Lopez.

Vladimir Baños gave Cuba 6 solid innings. He allowed 2 hits (a triple by Alegria and a single by Elmer Reyes) in the first and cruised after that.
Cuba combined 13 hits, with Lazaro Cedeño going 4 for 4.

The rubber game was a 10 inning thriller and Cuba scored the winning runs thanks to a double by Lazaro Cedeno, a base hit by Yunior Ibarra (off reliever Fidencio Flores) and a defensive error.

Cedeño also starred during Sunday’s Home Run Derby. He connected for 16 homers to win the contest against team mates Frederich Cepeda (15) and Guillermo Aviles (14).

After the series Nemesio Porras, the President of the Baseball Federation of Nicaragua (FENIBA), announced that the Denis Martinez Stadium will host in August a between the Nicaragua National team and Samurai Japan.
