Australia, China, Chinese Taipei and Philippines keep Olympic Softball dream alive as WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier moves into Super Round

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced the Super Round schedule for the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier in Shanghai, China, with Australia, China, Chinese Taipei and the Philippines left competing for the last available berth in softball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

SHANGHAI, China — 26 September — The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced the Super Round schedule for the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier in Shanghai, China, with Australia, China, Chinese Taipei and the Philippines left competing for the last available berth in softball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In Group A, China went undefeated (3-0) to win the group, while Philippines (2-1) ended at second place.

In Group B, Australia won the group with perfect record (3-0), while Chinese Taipei (2-1) placed second.

No. 11 New Zealand, No. 23 Korea, No. 37 Indonesia and No. 42 Hong Kong, China couldn’t make the Super Round and ended their participation at the Olympic qualifier.

The Super Round kicks off Friday with China playing as the home team against Chinese Taipei, while Australia faces off with the Philippines. On Saturday, the Philippines will play Chinese Taipei and Australia will take on China.

The top team after Saturday’s final Super Round games will earn a berth at the historic softball’s return to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. Only results between the four qualified teams (including matches in the Opening Round) count toward the final Super Round standings.

Global Live-Stream

All four games of the Super Round will be available to global audiences via the WBSC YouTube Official Channel and the WBSC OTT platform, Game Time.

In China CCTV and Shanghai TV have the exclusive broadcast rights in China. Eleven Sports Taiwan has been awarded the rights across the island. In the United States and Canada, the live-stream rights have been awarded to FloSports.
