Teams make final roster moves ahead of WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier

Cuba, Dominican Republic, USA and Venezuela announced new additions to their national teams.

The eight nations in the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier have finalized their 26-man rosters, announcing last-minute changes and replacements for the Olympic qualifier, which opens today with four games in Florida.

World No. 2 USA opened training camp with 28 players, with Manager Mike Scioscia electing to drop pitcher Clayton Andrews and catcher Matt Wieters, two former major leaguers.

Also in Group A, world No. 10 Dominican Republic announced that pitchers Enny Romero and Marcos Molina took the roster spots of injured Domingo Robles and Aderlin Rodriguez.

In Group B, world No. 7 Cuba completed its roster with catcher Lisbàn Correa, a 28-home run hitter for the Cuban National League Industriales in the 2020-21 season, and outfielder Yadir Drake. The are both playing in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB). Correa is currently on the Mexico City Diablos Rojos roster, while Drake plays for the Leones de Yucatan.

World No. 8 Venezuela lost infielder José Rondón, who was called up to the St. Louis Cardinals big league club, and added infielders Oswaldo Cabrera and Gabriel Noriega. Other last-minute additions were catcher Arturo Nieto and pitcher Oddanier Mosqueda.
