The two pitching staffs combined nine walks in the first three innings. Mexico took an early lead but Korea came back thanks to timely hitting and the running game.

World No 3 Korea needed three pitchers to get out of the first and fell 3-0 down to world No. 4 Mexico after three inning. Once Youngcheol Yoon set things up on the mound, Korea made the most of seven walks allowed by the Mexican staff. Timely hitting and a superb running game gave the five-time champions a 6-3 win.

Mexico's pitching also had a shaky start. Jesus Lopez entered the game as their fourth pitcher in the third. Mexico had already allowed six walks.

Korea got on the scoreboard when Hangyeol Park doubled and cut the lead to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly by catcher Beomseok Kim.

The bottom of the fourth became the turning point. Younghoo Kim ran a blooper to the right into a double, advanced on a bunt by Junyoung Jeong and scored on an error. Jeong reached third on a flyout and scored on a groundout. Daeson Jeong singled to make it 5-3. Korea added a run in the sixth.

Seohyeon Kim took control of the mound and saved Yoon's win allowing one run on one hit in 2.2 innings.

Korea guaranteed themselves to play at minimum the bronze medal game, guaranteeing them the chance to repeat or better the third place finish at the last edition of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2019. They would need Japan to beat the United States in the last Super Round game to access the final against Chinese Taipei.

Mexico finished sixth at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup for the sixth time in 16 editions to record their best result since finishing fourth in 2006.
