Mexico swept their doubleheader today and improved to 3-3 in the standings, remaining in contention to advance to the Bronze Medal Game.

Mexico secured their third win of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, with a 3-0 victory over the Netherlands, behind a one-hit shutout by southpaw Leanna Garcia. The win keeps Mexico in contention to advance to the Bronze Medal Game.

Garcia also made a contribution on the offensive side. She put Mexico in front with a long RBI double to center field, to score leadoff hitter Mariangel Barbosa, who had hit an infield hit to open the game.

In the top of the fourth, Jordyn Villanueva scored on a wild pitch, and later Ximena Zamarron produced the last run of the game with sacrifice fly to center field.

Garcia was brilliant for Mexico from the circle, pitching seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts, giving up only one hit, a Sietske Drijvers single in the second frame. The left-handed pitcher collected her second win of the day, and lowered her ERA to 0.33.

Esmee Ames was charged with the loss in a complete game performance, allowing four hits and three runs, with four strikeouts.

Mexico will play Peru tomorrow aiming to advance to the Bronze Medal Game.
