USA tops Peru in five, remains undefeated in WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup

The US team scored nine runs in the fifth frame, including a three-run homer by Erin Coffel and a two-run inside the park home run by Maci Bergeron.

USA defeated host Peru, 13-0, in the WBSC U-18 Softball World Cup on Friday at Villa Maria del Triunfo Complex. USA sits atop the standings with 6-0 record, along with Chinese Taipei. The two teams will end their round-robin together before meeting again in Sunday's World Championship Final.

USA scored one in the first and second innings, on a throwing error and a wild pitch. In the third, Violet Zavoldnik hit a sacrifice fly and Rylee Holtorf hit an RBI double to make it 4-0.

The US team exploded two innings later with nine runs, including a three-run homer by Erin Coffel and a two-run inside the park home run by Maci Bergeron. 

Morgan MacKenzie started for USA and earned the win, delivering seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings, giving up a pair of hits. Raelin Chaffin tossed 1.1 innings in relief, with three strikeouts. 

For Peru, Maria Pizarro tossed 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and five runs, and was credited with the loss.
