Panama-Mexico 2-0 GAME REPORT BOX SCORE

Chinese Taipei didn't waste time to score the first run in the Super Round. Center fielder Chen-tso Tseng homered on the first pitch by Colombian starter Elkin Alcala.

"I'm not going to overlook a first-pitch fastball," said Tseng through an interpreter. "I liked this one and I tried to make the most of it."

Tseng left the field in pain after hitting the outfield wall while chasing a deep fly. Still, he is not going to give up.
"We have two games to play and we need to play them at our best," he concluded.

Colombia confirmed how dangerous their lineup can be. Bryan Buelvas and Jordan Diaz both homered and Colombia came from behind twice. Chinese Taipei had allowed only six runs in group play, Colombia scored five in six at-bats.

"We know that this team can score runs at any moment of the game," commented manager Julio Mosquera. "We told the guys they need to keep believing. it's always possible to come back."

"Chinese Taipei was the toughest team to play on the Super Round opener," added Mosquera. "They have strong pitching. Credit to my hitters for the way they adjusted to their starter. My players make my job easy."

Bruan Buelvas, a 19-year old top prospect in the Oakland A's organisation, stressed the team's unity: "We like the word armonia," which in English would translate as oneness. "This is a team made of players who have a mutual goal. We want to go bask to Colombia with a medal.

Now 0-3, Chinese Taipei is virtually out of the medal race.
"It doesn't matter," said Wu on a final note. "We have two games to win. We will look at the standings on Friday night."

Venezuela had a 15-hit night, including home runs by Carlos Rodriguez, Romer Cuadrado and Juan Fernandez. Cuban starter got only three outs, allowing five earned runs on six hits.

"Our start was terrible," said Cuba's manager Eriel Sanchez. "It was very unlikely to come back from a six-run deficit against Venezuela's pitchers, Still, tomorrow is another day. Baseball gives you a chance to come back the day after. We will have to take the field more prepared, but this loss doesn't compromise our medal run."

Venezuela could represent the benchmark for a comeback. After losing the final game of group play, they reacted in spectacular fashion.

"I think the rest day helped us," said manager Carlos Garcia. "When you take the field after a loss, players may take a negative attitude with them. Today it didn't happen. We had very good at-bats, we were patient, we didn't chase any pitches, and we sat on what we were looking for."

El Almirante added: "The guys are celebrating, and winning against Cuba with such a margin is well worth a celebration."

Panama played an oustanding game behind starter Julio Goff, who left with one out in the seventh after using 94 pitches, 60 for strikes, and allowing only four hits and two walks.

"He pitched a great game, you need to give him credit," commented Mexico's manager Enrique Reyes. "He literally didn't give us a chance. I believe we played a good game, we were just beaten by a team that proved better tonight."

Panama scored all the runs they needed in the top of the sixth. First baseman Abraham Rodriguez turned the third offering by Mexico's starter Alemao Rodriguez into a two-RBI single up the middle.

"I was confident because I had already seen that pitcher twice. So I told myself I couldn't let him get me again," commented an emotional Rodriguez after the game.
"I feel a lot of pride right now. I feel the pride of playing for my country. We are really motivated to do the best we can to win."

El Che Reyes is not giving up the idea of winning.
"We want to win all games of course, but this loss doesn't change much. We have still two games to play and our possibilities to advance to the finals are intact. I'm already focused on tomorrow night's game against Venezuela."
