The previous version of the rulebook is still available in up to 12 languages and remains so via the WBSC website.

Enhancing the spectacle and safety-first rule changes highlight some of the key changes to the new Official Baseball5 Rulebook, published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation today, one month ahead of the discipline’s showpiece event – the Baseball World Cup taking place in El Zocalo, Mexico City from 7-13 November.

The previous version of the rulebook is available in up to 12 languages and remains so via the WBSC website (see more details below). The latest version of the Rulebook currently available in English is accompanied by a document that highlights the changes.

Following a period of testing and reviews in the spirit of the continuous betterment of the game, the key updates are as per the following:

  • Additional information about the Outfield area and Safety Zone (Page 3)
  • Clarification on the use of 1st base (Page 5)
  • The size of the bases have increased from 50cm to 60cm (Page 4)
  • Specific thickness of lines have been given to differentiate between the lines that form the field and lines that indicate the No-Hit Zone (Page 4)
  • The act and motion of hitting has been further explained to eliminate illegal forms of hitting (Page 10).
  • Further explanation on illegal hitting has been added (Page 10)
  • Clarification of the base running rules during a Baseball5 Game (Page 10)
  • Additional ways of making an out and/or runners eliminating themselves (Page 11)
  • Clarification on the judgement of dead ball situations (Page 12)
  • The manner how a player may request time during a Baseball5 game (Page 13)
  • Added rule for temporary bleeding/injury substitution (Page 13)

"These rule enhancements have been made in order to enrich the contest on the field of play while heightening spectator appeal with our inaugural Baseball5 World Cup in mind," WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said. "With more and more countries playing the game, with their sights on Baseball5 at the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 in Senegal, Africa, where the five-on-five discipline will make its Olympic debut, we also want to make the Baseball5 rules accessible to as many of our National Federations as possible, so we can continue to globalize the game."

It is possible to download the different versions of the rule book on the website of the World Baseball Softball Confederation in the Baseball5 section of the WBSC official website under Game Rules.
