Tunisia will be making its first appearance in a WBSC World Cup, becoming the 79th nation/territory (the ninth from Africa) to feature in World Cup history.

The World Baseball Confederation has announced Tunisia as the recipient of the wild card to participate in the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

The appointment of Tunisia, who finished third behind South Africa and Kenya at the Baseball5 Africa Championship, completes the list of qualified teams for the tournament, which will take place at the famous El Zócalo in Mexico City from 7-13 November.

Participating Teams:
Africa (2) South Africa, Kenya
Americas (2) Cuba, Venezuela
Asia (3) Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea
Europe (2) France, Lithuania
Host Nation (1) Mexico
Oceania (1) Australia
Wild Card (1) Tunisia

"It's a great honour for Tunisia to be able to participate in the inaugural Baseball5 World Cup," said Tunisia Baseball and Softball Federation President Saber Jlajla. "Baseball5 is thriving in our country and this is recognition of the excellent work we have done in this area and the potential of our team."

"To have Africa represented in the first ever Baseball5 World Cup with three teams is a major milestone for our continent," said WBSC Africa President Albert K Frimpong. "After our brilliant qualification tournament we now look forward to showcasing Africa's true colours on the international stage, especially with Baseball5 also featuring in the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal in 2026."

With the Baseball5 World Cup less than two months away all teams are currently in preparation mode.

El Zócalo is the common name for Plaza de la Constitucion, the main square in central Mexico City. Before the colonial period (1521-1821), it was the main ceremonial center in the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan.

The international calendar includes the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup on even years and the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup (14-18 age bracket) on odd years. The events will happen on a two-year cycle.

The 2025 edition of the Youth Baseball5 World Cup will qualify for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where the discipline will debut as an official medal sport.
