Colombia's Gustavo Campero is the U-23 Baseball World Cup MVP as U-23 All-World Team revealed

The 24-year old was the best hitter in the tournament with a .571 batting average.

Gustavo Campero of Colombia was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, which concluded Saturday night in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Campero, 24, played catcher and left fielder. He was the best hitter of the U-23 Baseball World Cup, with a .571 batting average. He also hit a home run and had eight runs batted in.

"I feel great. I have so much to be thankful for. It was already an honour to be here, let alone earning MVP honours and leading Colombia to a bronze medal," said Campero after the closing ceremony."

"We have a great group," he added. "We really came together. You can't understand how much fun we had if you haven't shared our games in the dugout."

The WBSC also revealed during the closing ceremony the U-23 All-World Team.

The U-23 All-World starting pitcher is Yu-hung Chen of Chinese Taipei. The 20-year old didn't allow a run in two starts.

Colombia's Jhon Peluffo was named the best relief pitcher. He earned two saves between group play and the super round and a third one in the bronze medal game.

Alvaro Rubi of seventh-place Nicaragua is the best catcher. He took a .500 batting average to the late stages of the tournament.

Robert Perez Jr. made the All-World Team as the first baseman. He posted a .429 batting average and hit two home runs.

Panama's Adrian Montero was picked as the second baseman. He played close to perfect defence and batted .400.

Milkar Perez of Nicaragua was the choice at third base.

The All-World shortstop is Javier Salazar, Mexico's captain. He had a .364 batting average and played solid defence.

The three outfielders are Gustavo Campero of Colombia, Jesus Lujano of Venezuela and Jesus Marriaga of Colombia..

Erasmo Caballero of Panama was the choice at DH. The 20-year old played both catcher and designated hitter.

Antonio Pinero, the 22-year old shortstop for Venezuela, has earned outstanding defensive player honours.
