LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The Confederation of Pan American Baseball (COPABE) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) have confirmed the launch of a Pan Am Women’s Baseball Qualifier for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Hosted by the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE), the inaugural Pan Am Women’s Baseball World Cup Qualifier will take place 22-26 March in Santo Domingo, and award two places into the VIII WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2018 (22-31 August) at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Viera, Florida, USA.

“Women’s baseball’s popularity and participation numbers have been steadily increasing in the Americas,” said COPABE/FEDOBE President Hector Pereyra. “FEDOBE is honoured to be the host of this new and exciting women’s baseball international platform, which connects to and expands the pinnacle competition, the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup.”

In addition to the Dominican Women’s National Baseball Team, three other nations will compete in the four-team tournament.

Nations expressing interest to compete in the qualifier in Santo Domingo – and potentially earn a ticket to compete For the Title of World Champion in Viera – include Argentina, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

The top two nations in the Pan Am qualifier will join follow Americas representatives host USA, Canada, Cuba and Venezuela in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2018.

From the first-ever Women’s Baseball Asia Cup 2017 played last September, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong earned tickets to Viera.

World No. 1 Japan has won the last five editions of the Women’s Baseball World Cup – the flagship women’s baseball competition.
