Former World Series Champion, San Francisco Giants 2012, Angel Pagan was rescued at sea near San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 May. Pagan was on a boat with Orlando Román, another former professional player, and a 16-year old minor. The boat engine reportedly malfunctioned and a 15-foot wave flipped the board.

Pagan and the minor reportedly didn’t suffer any consequence, while Román needed medical treatment for head trauma.

Angel Pagan is a veteran in international baseball. He made his debut with the Puerto Rico National Team during the 2003 Americas Qualifier for the Olympic Games and was the starting center fielder for the Puerto Rico team that reached the championship game of the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He came back for the 2017 World Baseball Classic, contributing to another silver medal

Orlando Román was also on the 2013 and 2017 Puerto Rico National Teams. He also participated in the previous two editions of the World Baseball Classic.
Román spent various seasons in the USA Minor Leagues but enjoyed more success overseas. He played for the CPBL Brother Elephant, Lamigo Monkeys and Chinatrust Brothers and for the NPB Tokyo Yakult Swallows.
