A 2-run homer by Jason Hill in the bottom of the second inning was all the offense Canada needed to win a key match against Venezuela in Group B, in the fight for the top spot of the standings. Devon McCullough went the distance for Canada allowing only 4 hits and 1 run, with 13 strikeouts. Canada is now the only team undefeated in Group B.

In the bottom of the second Hill smacked a two-run homer off Venezuelan starter Luis Colombo with a line drive to right field to give Canada the lead.

In the top of the third Venezuela make it a one-run ballgame, when Jorge Lima singled in Herwims Querales with a strong line to third base.

However, McCullough only allowed 1 more hit to the South American champions, a double in the six off the bat of Lima. But the right-handed pitcher fanned Carlos Carreño for the second out and Lima was caught stealing third base.

This was the last scoring opportunity for Venezuela in the game.
