World Nº. 3 Korea, Nº. 6 Chinese Taipei and Nº. 2 Japan qualified for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup® 2019, to be played in Gijang, Republic of Korea. The three nations advanced to the global event as the top three teams at the 2018 U-18 Asian Baseball Championship, held in Miyazaki, Japan.

Korea claimed unbeaten the Asian U-18 Baseball Championship last Monday, defeating Chinese Taipei in the finale by a score of 7-5. In the bottom of the ninth Chinese Taipei scored one run to tie the game, 3-3. However, Korea took a four-run lead in the top of the tenth to secure the title.

In the bronze medal game, Japan beat China, 14-1, to clinch the third and last spot in next year’s World Cup.

Korea has won the U-18 Baseball World Cup five times, the last one ten years ago in Edmonton, Canada. Chinese Taipei has conquered the title twice, while Japan will be looking next year to win it all for the first time in history.

Last year, in Thunder Bay, Korea claimed the silver medal at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup®, losing the championship game against USA. Japan completed the podium.
