Baseball program in Belarus has been started by Dimitry Sagalchik, student of Belarus Sports Academy then in June of 1988.
The exhibition game organized in the capitals’ stadium of the same summer between Cuban students who studied in various country universities attracted first interest to the game and the first club «Belavezhskie Zubrs» was formed in Minsk.
In 1990, the team qualified to play in Soviet National Championship starting in 1991 season.
With the independence from a Soviet Union, Belarus formed its own Belarus Baseball Federation in September of 1992, the first President became Aleksandr Gerasimenko.
Shortly after, in addition to a program in Minsk, baseball started in the second Belarus city Mogilev by sports’s enthusiast Vitaly Ozerov.
First initiatives by federation were to develop children's baseball, and in 1993 a baseball branch was opened up at the Football Sports School.
In 1994 the Belarus Baseball Federation was accepted as a member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (former IBAF) and the European Confederation of Baseball (CEB). This has opened the opportunities to participate in European competitions for Belarus National team and Belarus clubs.
Within the years new centers were formed in Borisov, Brest, Soligorsk, Skidel, Logishin.
National regular competitions were played since 1997.
In 2000, the national Belarus team took part in the European Championships, held in Slovakia.
