History

Founded in 1924, the French Baseball & Softball Federation is the organization in charge of the development of baseball and softball in France.

The game of baseball was played as early as the end of the XIXe century in France thanks to exhibition games from Major League Baseball teams such as the Chicago White Sox and the New York Giants. The first game ever to be played was a Sox vs Giants exhibition during the Spalding World Tour in Paris in 1889 when France was hosting the Universal Exposition. Clubs were created and the game started to grow, especially in the Paris area. After the First World War baseball got back on track and the Federation was founded in 1924, a year during which Paris welcomed the Olympics Games.

Unfortunately and unless France was a leading country to the birth of both the European Baseball Confederation and the European Softball Federation in the 1950s it's only in the 1980s that baseball and softball really started to grow in France, rising from a few hundred players to more than 13.000.

After experiencing difficult times from the mid-90s to the 2000s, the Federation now enjoys a new dynamic since 2010 and has nearly doubled his membership during that span. As of 2018 FFBS has 230 clubs and 14000 members, a 80% increase over the last decade.
