A record-setting 12 teams opened today the XIV Men’s Softball European Championship in Havlíčkův Brod, Czech Republic. The event serves as the European qualifier for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship; to be held in Prague next year. All the games from field A (Havlíčkův Brod) will be live-streamed on the Softball Europe Facebook page.

The 12 teams were split into two pools:

Pool A: Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Lithuania.

Pool B: Croatia, Denmark, Israel, Netherlands, Slovakia and Sweden.

After the first day of competition, Czech Republic, Great Britain and Italy lead the standings in Pool A; while Denmark, Israel and Netherlands do the same in Pool B. All of them won their first game of the tournament today.

The top three nations in the tournament will earn a berth in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship 2019 in Czech Republic.

This event marks the historic debut of Lithuania in the continental tournament.
