Juan Pablo Tirado was awarded the Luchador Olmeca (Olmeca Wrestler; Olmeca is a word that dates back 1,000 years Before Christ and means “inhabitant of the land of rubber”), the highest honor given by the Confederacion Deportiva Mexicana (CODEME; Mexican Sports Confederation).
Juan Pablo Tirado starred for Mexico at the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Tainan, Taiwan. He played center field and connected for a .654 batting average (17 on 26), with 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. Tirado made the All World Team as one of the 3 outfielders.
The awarding ceremony was hosted by CODEME President José Amado Aguilar Argüelles at the headquaerters of the Confederation.
Juan Pablo Tirado was accompanied by the president of the Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE), Enrique Mayorga Betancourt and by Fernando Hernández, head of the State Baseball Association of Sinaloa.
“I am very proud. I thank my parents, brothers, friends because it is not easy to get where I have been” commented Tirado after receiving the Award.
Since the early 1980s, the winners of the Luchador Olmeca are athletes of excellence, executives, leaders who, through their actions, promote sports in Mexico.
