PRINCE ALBERT, SK, Canada – The city of Prince Albert – host of the 2018 WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship – has successfully raised $1.5 million CAD to upgrade the Prime Ministers Park facility.

Through Project Triple Play, Prince Albert will construct a new diamond and expand a second one, providing them with four regulation size fields, specifically for the male youth softball flagship event.

“We are very excited about using this newly upgraded facility for the 2018 WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championships,” stated Softball Canada President Kevin Quinn. “The host committee has done a terrific job on both the facility and the organizational aspects of the Championship. It will be a great event.”

The entire complex, renamed Max Power Ball Parks at Prime Ministers Park, will now feature four diamonds with lights on three fields, while each of the four diamonds have also been renamed: Rotary Field (new diamond), Kinsmen Field (formerly PMP#2), Optimist Field (formerly PMP #1) and Shaye Amundson Field (formerly PMP#3).

“I’m excited about what this expansion and the amount of money the group has been able to fundraise is going to be able to open the doors for… We’re excited that it’s just going to grow the sport of softball.” said Bruce Vance, a Project Triple Play committee member.

Funding through Project Triple Play was helped through grants and major sponsorship, which has included monetary donations and in-kind work done to help get the park and new diamond ready for the World Championship in 2018 and act as a lasting legacy for the area.

Japan is the current World Champion following their 2016 WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship thrilling 2-1 victory over New Zealand.

The 2018 WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship will take place 7-15 July 2018.
