Baseball legend Sadaharu Oh unveils new logo for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

TOKYO — Japanese baseball icon and sports hero Sadaharu Oh was selected to reveal the new official emblem of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo.

TOKYO — Japanese baseball icon and sports hero Sadaharu Oh was selected to reveal the new official emblem of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo.

Oh recently unveiled the logo alongside Ryohei Miyata, the Tokyo 2020 logo selection committee chairman.

Last August, Oh was a member of WBSC’s bid group that pitched baseball and softball as potential sporting-events to be added to the Tokyo 2020 programme.

Baseball/softball is among five new sports that Tokyo 2020, under Agenda 2020 reforms, has proposed to the International Olympic Committee as a “package of events that represents both traditional and emerging, youth-focused events, all of which are popular both in Japan and internationally.”  The IOC will vote on the proposal in early August.

Baseball’s ‘home run king’ also recently had an asteroid, “Ohsadaharu”, named in his honour.
