After a 143 game regular season NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) are ready for the first stage of their post season. The so called Climax Series will take off on Saturday, 14 October. Number 2 and number 3 seeds of each league will play a best of 3 series to earn the right to challenge the first place team in a best of 7 series that qualifies the winner to the Nippon Series (start date: Saturday, 28 October). The pennant winner enjoys a one game advantage in the best of 7 Climax Series final.
The Central League second place Hanshin Tigers (78 wins-61 losses-4 draws) will host third place DeNA Baystars (73-65-5) in the historical Koshien stadium in Nishinomiya, near Kobe. The winner will face Hiroshima Carps, that clinched the Central League pennant with an 88-51-4 record.
The Pacific League second place Seibu Lions (79-61-3) will host third place Rakuten Eagles (77-63-3) in their Prince Dome in Saitama. The winner will advance to the Climax Series final against the pennant winner (94-49) Softbank Hawks.
Total attendance was over 22 million fans, with the Central League exceeding 12 million (and averaging over 32,000 per game) and the Pacific League just over 10 millions (average per game over 25,000)
