BIC Camera Takasaki won the 48th Japan Women’s Softball League (JWSL) on 1 November in Aichi, Japan with a 1-0 victory over Toyota Motor. This victory marks their first championship after being established just this year, replacing Renesas Electronics.
This year’s edition of Championship Tournament was held at the Nagoya Dome – the home field for Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) club Chunichi Dragons – a symbolic baseball dome stadium in Aichi, Japan.
The championship tournament was well attended with over 15,000 spectators and over 40,000 web-streaming viewers for the two days.
Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion, Yukiko Ueno, received the MVP award following her 4 hit, 11 strikeout performance at the Grand Final.
In collaboration with NPB, former famous professional baseball player (Nippon Ham Fighters) and coach of Premier12 Japan Men’s Baseball National Team “Samurai Japan”, Mr. Atsunori Inaba conducted first-pitch ceremony at the Grand Final game.
The JWSL holds their regular season from July to October with twelve teams from various regions around Japan playing in a double round-robin format. The top four teams then advance to the championship tournament.
