GABORONE, Botswana – The No. 33 Botswana and No. 35 South African expanded women’s national teams met in a two-game series over the weekend, splitting the contests.
The two African representatives are tuning up for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship 2018 in Chiba, Japan, this August.
Game 1 : RSA 6-4 BOT
South Africa took a 6-1 lead into the seventh inning before the host nation reacted with a 3-run effort that finally came short.
Game 2: BOT 4-2 RSA
Botswana excited the home crowd with a come-from-behind victory scoring four unanswered runs. South Africa had taken the early lead with two runs in the third inning.
Road to Chiba
Both nations qualified for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship through the Africa Qualifier in Pretoria, South Africa, last month.
Botswana will return to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship after a four-year absence. Their last participation was in 2014 in Haarlem, Netherlands, where they finished in the 14th place.
South Africa last appeared at the flagship women’s softball event in 2012, in Whitehorse, Canada. They also ended in the 14th place.
