Chinese Taipei win, will face USA in gold medal game of U-12 Baseball World Cup. Japan, Mexico to play for bronze

TAINAN, Chinese Taipei-The hosts Chinese Taipei defeat Nicaragua and earn a spot in Sunday’s gold medal game. Japan and Mexico will play for the bronze

Chinese Taipei get the win they needed defeating (9-1) Nicaragua. They will play defending champions USA on Sunday (6.30 pm local time) for the U-12 World Title. At 2 pm local time Japan will face Mexico in the bronz medal game.


Starters Usiel Carballo and Chao Chia Cheng dominate as the game takes off. With one out in the bottom of the second, Carballo issues back to back walks (to designated hitter Hsu Chia Chin and first baseman Kuo Shu Wei). Chinese Taipei fail to advance runners on left fielder Yang Nien Tsu bunt attempt, but then Carballo walks Yang Yi Cheng to load the bases and allows the first run on a wild pitch. The hosts score 2 more when a hard grounder by right fielder Tseng Yi Wei goes past second baseman Torrentes glove (base hit). Tseng is then the first out when he delays his return to first base bag.

Chao Chia Cheng pitched 5 quality innings for Chinese Taipei

Nicaragua strike back in the top of the third. Left fielder Miranda leads off with a base hit and designated hitter Sevilla follows with a double that brings Miranda to third. On catcher Benavides chopper, shortstop Yang Yi Cheng gets Miranda trying to score. Sevilla reaches third on the play and scores when Chinese Taipei fails to complete a double play on center fielder Montealto chopper to first. Yang Yi Cheng throw is just a little late. Chao Chia Cheng closes the inning striking out right fielder Tito Martinez.
With third baseman Han Shuo Heng (walk) at second base and catcher Pai Chen An (hit by pitch) at first in the bottom of the third, second baseman Sun Yi Lei grounder goes past Nicaragua third baseman Collado and is fielded by Machado. The shortstop misses his target when he throws to second and Han scores, while Pai gets to third. Chinese Taipei score 2 more runs on sacrifice flies by designated hitter Hsu Chia Chin (to center) and by first baseman Kuo Shu Wei. Bravo moves to the mound to end the inning. Chinese Taipei lead is now 6-1.

An impressive crowd watched the game between Nicaragua and Chinese Taipei

Bravo struggles hard with control and Nicaragua defense doesn’t back him. After one run allowed and back to back walks in the fourth, the ball goes to Tito Martinez. The newcomer gets started with a throwing error on a pick off attempt to first. It is worth 2 more runs and the gap grows to 9-1.
Kuo Shu Wei heads to the mound to pitch the sixth inning for Chinese Taipei.
