PRAGUE – The Czech Baseball Association (CBA) under President Petr Ditrich was given a reception by U.S. Ambassador to The Czech Republic Stephen King to celebrate baseball’s ongoing development in the country and the achievements of the Czech National Teams in 2017 international competitions.

The Czech U-12 National Team took 8th Place at the 12-nation WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Tainan, Taiwan, this past August, finishing as the top European nation in the youth world championship and ahead of all African, South American and Oceanian representatives.

CBA hosted the European U-23 Baseball Championship, finishing in 2nd Place to qualify for next year’s WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup in Managua, Nicaragua.

Czech Republic also had success at the FISU Universiade Taipei 2017, advancing to the semi-finals before losing to the U.S.

To celebrate 100 years of Czech-U.S. relations (1918-2018), the U.S. Embassy is “supporting several projects commemorating the strong athletic ties that exist between our two countries.”

Ambassador King said that baseball “is a sport that teaches us all the skills required to be great team players, to be leaders, and to bring positive change in not just our lives, but also in our communities.”

Czech Republic is currently No. 14 in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings Presented by ENEOS.
