Game 9: An ace performance by Haruka Fukui led Japan to a 5-0 win in seven innings over Canada on Monday at OGE Energy Field

Japan’s Haruka Fukui kept Canada off the scoreboard for the complete game, pitching a shutout on two hits while ringing up four.

Japan jumped to an early lead in the first and never looked back when they scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Yui Sakamoto.

They then put up one run in each of the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. In the third, Japan scored on an RBI triple by Haruka Sakuraoka, scoring Chiharu Nasu. In the fourth, an RBI single by Mahiro Takenaka brought home Mutsumi Honma. In the sixth, Japan scored on a sacrifice fly by Erika Ishino scoring Akane Ariyoshi.

Nasu contributed with two extra-base hits for Japan, including a double in the third inning and a homer in the seventh inning.

Elizabeth Murphy was the game’s losing pitcher with four innings of work on three walks, three strike outs, and three earned runs.

Game 10: Czech Republic takes out Brazil with help from Apolena Vyborna, 3-2

Apolena Vyborna went 1-3 with a double helping Czech Republic to a 3-2 victory over Brazil in extra innings on Monday at ASA HOF Complex.

Brazil jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a single by Gabriela Santos. A stolen base moved her to second and Leticia Omori doubled to bring her home. The scoreboard lit up again for Brazil when Omori scored on an error.

The Czech Republic equaled Brazil’s score in the third, scoring two runs. Sabina Phamova and Tereza Kubicova led off the inning with back to back walks. Apolena Vyborna then hit a line drive to left field to drive in two runs.

Veronika Pecknova worked out of three tricky spots for Czech Republic, pitching five innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits. But she faced her toughest situation in the eighth inning.

With Camila Yokota placed on second from the international tie-breaker rule, Santos doubled to left field allowing Yokota to advance to third. But Pecknova responded by striking out Omori. She then got Mariana Pereira to fly out to right field to get out of the inning unscathed.

The Czech Republic sealed the game when Vyborna was driven in by Nikol Tabackova, who singled to left field.

A bright spot for Brazil in the defeat was Fernanda Shiroma, who allowed only two runs while striking out five, but still received the loss.

Game 11: Georgina Corrick leads Great Britain to 1-0 victory thanks to 5 strikeouts

An outstanding effort by Georgina Corrick led Great Britain to a 1-0 win over Argentina on Monday at ASA HOF Complex.

Great Britain scored its only run of the game on a walk by Sian Wigington in the second inning causing Chelsie Robison to cross the plate.

Corrick pitched lights out for Great Britain giving up just one hit, no earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts during her seven innings of work.

Ana Paula Larregui ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision charged with the loss despite no hits. She lasted just 1 2/3 innings with three walks and one run.

Game 12: Early lead gives United States victory over Italy, 20-0

United States jumped to an early lead against Italy and captured a 20-0 victory on Monday at OGE Energy Field.

The first inning greeted USA with an 8-0 lead on a two-run double by Alyssa Palomino, a two-run single by Paige Halstead, a wild pitch, an error, and a sacrifice fly by Nicole DeWitt.

They followed up in the second with nine more runs on a three-run triple by Jazmyn Jackson, a passed ball, an RBI single by Jenna Lilley, an RBI single by Palomino, and a two-run single by Paige Halstead to fuel United States’ offense.

Palomino racked up four RBIs on three hits for United States.

Zoe Conley looked sharp in the circle; Italy managed just one hit off of Conley, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during her two innings of work.

Teresa Cernecca lasted one-third of an inning in the circle for Italy before the call to the bullpen. Cernecca gave up two hits and six runs before being replaced by Laura Bigatton and Matilde Zanotti.


Game 13: Strong pitching leads Puerto Rico past Mexico 10-1

Meghan Marie King held Mexico scoreless for six innings to boost Puerto Rico to a 10-1 victory.

The game was held scoreless for both teams through three innings. But Puerto Rico scored on a two-run single by Kiara Resto in the fourth.

Puerto Rico followed up in the fifth to make the score 3-0 when Shemiah Sanchez doubled to left field to score Elicia D’Orazio.

The offense exploded for the Puerto Rico in the seventh leading to seven runs on an RBI single by Klandraliz Vega, a walk by Themaris Ramirez, a two-run single by Korina Rosario, and a three-run triple by Odalys Cordova.

Cordova finished with three RBIs on two hits for Puerto Rico.

Mexico broke up the scoreless game with a solo run in the bottom of the seventh when Marcela Terrazas reached base on an error causing Maria Marrojo to score.

King allowed three hits, three walks and five strikeouts to earn the win for Puerto Rico.

Yeraldin Carrion took the loss for Mexico. She pitched six innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Game 14: Australia comes from behind to beat Chinese Taipei, 7-6

The top of the second saw Australia take an early 1-0 lead when a single by Alisha Prybyszczuk brought home Emily Read to start the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Chinese Taipei took the lead back scoring two. Chieh Yu Wu singled only to score when the next batter, Chia Yang, hit the two run homerun.

Chinese Taipei added another run in the fifth when Yang hit in Wu again.

In the sixth, Chinese Taipei added another three runs off of Wu’s RBI double, Chih Ying Lin’s RBI single, and an error to score Yang to make the score 6-1.

But Australia’s bats woke up in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs to tie the game. After a series of illegal pitches, Kalina Stepto singled to center field allowing Chantelle Ladner and Dorinda Stone to score. An error to the shortstop allowed Prybyszczuk to score. Allanah Alvarado then drove in Alicia Forte. Rebecca McEachern followed to score off a sacrifice fly by Mikayla Gregory to tie the game up 6-6.

In the top of the eighth and the score tied at six, Forte came to the plate and singled, scoring Ladner.

Forte was hot from the plate for Australia, who went 1-1, drove in one and scored one run.

Prybyszczuk did her best to jumpstart the offense for Australia, reaching base four times. She scored one run and had one RBI. She singled in the first, second, and seventh innings.

Amelia Cudicio worked out of 12 difficult moments for Australia, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on no hits.

Ya Ting Tu couldn’t get it done in the circle for Chinese Taipei, taking a loss with two walks in two innings of work.

Game 15: Japan improves to 3-0 in a shorten again against Colombia

Japan scored 12 runs in the first, followed by eight more runs in the second to secure the easy victory over Colombia in 2.5 innings.

Mutsumi Honma had three hits and Mahiro Takenaka had four RBIs to lead all batters.

Colombia’s Maria Fori was able to break up the no-hitter with a single to left field in the second.

Natsuki Hirose (1 hit; 2 strikeouts) received the win for Japan and Franlys Ramirez (17 hits; 2 walks) got the loss for Colombia.

Game 16: Mikayla Wecihiko’s double propels New Zealand past Great Britain, 4-1

Three first-inning runs helped New Zealand to a 4-1 win over Great Britain at OGE Energy Field on Monday.

New Zealand scored in the first on an RBI double by Mikayla Wecihiko, an RBI triple by Kayla Rangiawha, and a passed ball.

Great Britain managed to score one run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Georgina Corrick.

But Great Britain couldn’t get anything going as long as Courtney Gettins was in the circle. She gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during her four innings of work.

Corrick was the game’s losing pitcher with six walks, eight strike outs, and four runs.

Game 17: China defeats Argentina, 15-0, in lopsided game

China combined for seven runs in the first inning, seven runs in the second, and one run in the third to defeat Argentina in only three innings of work.

Yang Huiqi led all hitters with five RBIs on two hits at two plate appearances. Xu Junyi was able to cross the plate three times.

Mo Mercedes Grinolizzi had the lone hit for Argentina with a single to left field in the second.

Ping Fan earned the win with just 16 pitches in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit.

Mo Candelaria Acuna received the loss without getting a single out but saw three hits for five runs on 24 pitches.

Game 18: Early lead gives Puerto Rico victory over Brazil, 7-0

Puerto Rico jumped to an early lead on Brazil and captured the 7-0 victory on Monday at ASA HOF Complex.

With six runs in the first three innings, Puerto Rico left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An error, an RBI double by Yahelis Munoz Cardona, and a sacrifice fly by Sabrina Stutman during the first inning brought the score to 3-0.

The second inning brought an RBI triple by Elicia Marie D’Orazio and a groundout by Klandraliz Vega in the second inning to extend Puerto Rico’s lead to 5-0.

In the third, Rosario led off with a single to left field and was eventually driven in by Cordova.

The final run for Pureto Rico came in the seventh by D’Orazio. She paced Puerto Rico at the plate, going 3-4, driving in one and scoring three runs.

Giovanna Watts brought the heat against Brazil during her outing giving up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during her five innings of work.

Meghan Marie King got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She pitched two shutout innings, struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits.

Debora Ribeiro was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.

Game 19: Cielo Meza’s pitching leads Mexico past Czech Republic 1-0

Cielo Meza held Czech Republic scoreless for seven innings to boost Mexico to a 1-0 victory.

Meza struck out six and allowed three walks and four hits.

The lone run of the game for Mexico crossed the plate in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Karmine Valles .

Veronika Pecknova was charged with the loss. She lasted six innings, walked one, struck out seven, and allowed one run.

Game 20: Strong pitching leads Chinese Taipei past Italy 1-0

Ya Ting Tu kept Italy off the board during her seven innings of work as Chinese Taipei beat Italy, 1-0.

The lone run of the game for Chinese Taipei crossed the plate in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Chia Yang.

Tu struck out one and allowed two walks and five hits.

Serena Boniardi ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed no runs.

Game 21: Kelly Barnhill leads United States to 6-1 victory thanks to 14 strikeouts

An excellent effort by Kelly Barnhill hoisted United States to a 6-1 win over Australia on Monday at OGE Energy Field.

Barnhill’s 14 strikeouts were enough to push United States past Australia. Barnhill allowed no earned runs on two hits and one walk in seven innings of work.

Australia got out of a jam in the second after loading the bases. They escaped with just one run when Jenavee Peres stole home.

In the third, Australia tied the game up, 1-1, when Alisha Prybyszczuk reached on error allowing Alicia Forte to score.

The game remained tied until Madilyn Nickles helped United States take the lead for good in the sixth inning. Jenna Lilley and Peres walked to get on base, followed by DJ Sanders singling to load the bases. Nickles then hit a triple to right field to clear the bases, who later scored on a fielder’s choice. The final run of the inning and game came from another walk which allowed Jazmyn Jackson to reach base and score on a single by Nicole DeWitt, bringing the score to 6-1.

Nickles racked up three RBIs on one hit for United States.

Amelia Cudicio was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted 5 1/3 innings, walked five, struck out six, and allowed five runs.

Game 22: Ashley Penney throws no-hitter as Canada defeats Colombia 10-0

Monday was a day Ashley Penney will remember forever after she threw a no-hitter in Canada’s 10-0 victory over Colombia.

No Colombia batter was able to locate Penney’s pitches during the game, striking out six batters and walking none while recording her momentous feat. She got Maria Fori to strike out for the final out of the game.

Everything was working at the plate for the Canada in the first, scoring six runs on an RBI single by Callum Pilgrim, a two-run single by Taylor Lundrigan, a sacrifice fly by Brielle McCullough, an RBI double by Mary Martin, and a passed ball.

In the fourth, Canada scored another four runs to end to game due to the run-ahead rule. Kelsey Jenkins’ RBI triple scored Julianna Waldner. A fielder’s choice and fly out allowed two more runs to cross the plate. The final run came from Alisha Welch who scored on an error.

Jenkins reached base two times. She scored two runs and had one RBI.

Sirlys Escorcia ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked six and struck out one.

Game 23: Great pitching leads China past New Zealand 3-0

An ace performance by Ping Fan led China to a 3-0 win over New Zealand on Monday at ASA HOF Complex. She pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs on two hits.

Fan faced her toughest situation in the fifth inning. A single, hit by pitch, and an error allowed New Zealand to load the bases. But Fan was able to get out of the inning striking out Zoe Tolhopf for the third and final out.

Wang Bei pushed China ahead, in the sixth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Xu Yi singled to get on base and scored the game’s first run.

China increased its lead with two runs in the seventh as Yang Huiqi tripled, scoring Sun Xun to kick things off. That was followed up by Shu Quinshuang’s triple, bringing home Huiqi.

Amy Begg was charged with the loss. She lasted 5 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed one run.
