Day 6 Results

GIJANG, Korea – Three shutouts at Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark highlighted Day 6 of the LG Presents Women’s Baseball World Cup, as Japan’s 10-0 win over Australia locked in spot for the four-time defending world champions in Sunday’s Final.

Japan starting pitcher Miyu Shimizu struck out six over four innings to help her country clinch the top spot in the Super Group and extend the naton’s win-streak to 17 World Cup games.

Canada’s Heather Healey, Melissa Armstrong and Anne Sophie Lavallée, who made her World Cup debut, combined to shutout Korea.

Venezuela’s Giddelis Cumana pitched a 2-0 complete-game shutout over Chinese Taipei in a game that had several defensive highlights.

Super Round Saturday will determine who will meet Japan in the Final and the nations to compete in the bronze medal match.  Canada and Chinese Taipei are guaranteed — at a minimum — to play in the bronze medal game and to finish at least as the 4th-best woman’s baseball nation in the world.

Rising host nation Korea will finish in 6th Place.
