TAIPEI — The Chinatrust Brothers (the “Elephants”) clinched the first-half of the 2016 Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) season on 10 June, when the team defeated the EDA Rhinos before 19,483 fans at Taichung Intercontinental Stadium, the second-biggest crowd in CPBL history.

CPBL, a WBSC Associate Member, is Taiwan’s top professional sports league, helping baseball to maintain its position as the most popular spectator sport in the nation.

The Elephants clinched the half-season title with more than a week left to the midway point and are now guaranteed a spot in the post-season for the third consecutive year. The Elephants have won 14 CPBL half-season titles – the most in CPBL history – and seven CPBL Taiwan Series titles.

CPBL’s second-half will officially get underway on 1 July, while the CPBL finals will be staged in October.

Last year’s Taiwan Series generated a record-attendance for CPBL, with over 120,000 fans attending the 7-game series.
