Guam, Australia set for rematch in Final of U-12 Oceania Baseball Championship

Unranked Guam and world No. 11 Australia are set to collide Saturday in the Finals of the inaugural U-12 Oceania Baseball Championship at Haganta’s Guerrero Field.

HAGATNA, Guam – Unranked Guam and world No. 11 Australia are set to collide Saturday in the Finals of the inaugural U-12 Oceania Baseball Championship at Hagatna’s Guerrero Field.

The youth National Team of Guam previously surprised Australia with a 11-5 victory to open the continental championship and followed up with a 16-1 win over American Samoa.

The host nation’s victories have made the featured headlines in the sports-section and social media of the national newspaper.

The top Oceania finisher in the final standings will go on to compete for the world title at the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2017 — the highest level of baseball for 12-year-old players — in Tainan, Taiwan, this July/August.

Guam will enter the final day of competition with an undefeated record of W2-L0, while Australia will enter W2-L1.

American Samoa, W0-L3, has been mathematically eliminated from the championship.
