Guatemala crowned Central American Men’s Softball Champions

GUATEMALA CITY (Guatemala) — Guatemala was crowned champions at the Central American Men’s Softball Championship, defeating Panama, 9-0, in the Grand Final in Guatemala City.

GUATEMALA CITY (Guatemala) — Guatemala was crowned champions at the Central American Men’s Softball Championship, defeating Panama, 9-0, in the Grand Final in Guatemala City.

The hosts made it clear why they are the best in the region, arriving undefeated at the final match – beating Honduras (5-2), Nicaragua (11-0), Panama (7-0) and El Salvador (11-1) during round robin play; while in the first round of the playoff defeated Panama by 13-7.

Honduras finished in third place, following their 10-3 loss to Panama.

In the Grand Final, Guatemala’s Cesar Sajche was spectacular in the pitching circle throwing a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters to lead his team to the regional title.

The first runs of the match came in the third inning with a two-run homer by Pedro Dieguez, with Diego Bran on board, for the initial 2-0.

An inning later, the home team extended their lead with two more runs by Alvaro Dacaret and Rafael Frias.

In the fifth inning, Dieguez showed his power again with his second bomb of the afternoon, a two run shot to put the score at 6-0.

Finally, Bran connected a walk-off three-run homer for the final 9-0.

In the individual awards, Sajche was the tournament’s most valuable player, with the lowest ERA and the most wins.
