Global broadcaster turns to baseball as part of growth strategy in Taiwan market

Eleven Sports Network announced a partnership to feature all home games of Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) club Lamigo Monkeys to help expand the global sports broadcaster’s market presence in Taiwan.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Eleven Sports Network announced a multi-year partnership to exclusively feature all home games of Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) club Lamigo Monkeys to help expand the global sports broadcaster’s market presence in Taiwan.

Adding premium baseball content to its portfolio reflects Eleven’s “strategy to deliver sports content that is relevant to the local market” and coincides with Eleven’s two new Taiwanese cable channels that will be launched in March.

The partnership with the Monkeys not only expands Eleven’s presence in Taiwan but also boosts baseball’s leading position in the territory, as Eleven will bring Monkeys home games to its more than 3 million subscribers.

Baseball in Taiwan continues to be the most popular form of sports entertainment, in terms of key metrics such as attendance, broadcast numbers and social media volume.

Eleven also recently acquired the rights in Taiwan to feature comprehensive coverage of the upcoming WBSC-sanctioned World Baseball Classic.

Eleven Sports Network has been a broadcast partner of WBSC since the year the network launched in 2015, and featured the PREMIER12® 2015, the Women’s Baseball World Cup® 2016 and the U-15 Baseball World Cup® 2016 in such territories as Belgium, Malaysia, Poland and Singapore.

The Chinese Taipei National Baseball Team is currently No. 4 in the latest WBSC Baseball World Rankings.
