Japan crowned Asian Men’s Softball Champions

World N° 3 Japan claimed the 10th Asian Men’s Softball Championship, defeating N° 17 Philippines 4-0 in the final game. Both teams, along with Singapore, qualified for the XVI WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship.

World N° 3 Japan claimed the 10th Asian Men’s Softball Championship, defeating N° 17 Philippines 4-0 in the final game. Japan went undefeated over the tournament to win their seventh straight continental title. Both teams, along with Singapore, qualified for the XVI WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship, to be played in Prague, Czech Republic, in June 2019.

This was Japan’s second victory over the Philippines in the playoffs. In the first playoff game Japan won 6-0 and advanced to the final. Then, the Philippines themselves advanced to the decisive game defeating N° 21 Singapore by 7-0.

Previously, Singapore defeated host team Indonesia by 10-3, claiming the third berth in next year’s World Championship.

The six-day long event was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Softball Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, and served as a test event for the upcoming Asian Games.
