Japan wins U-18 Asia championship, qualifies for U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017

Top-ranked Japan defeated world No. 4 Chinese Taipei, 1-0, in the Final of the BFA U-18 Asia Baseball Championship 2016 at Taichung Intercontinental Stadium on Sunday (4 Sept).

TAICHUNG, Taiwan – Top-ranked Japan defeated world No. 4 Chinese Taipei, 1-0, in the Final of the BFA U-18 Asia Baseball Championship 2016 at Taichung Intercontinental Stadium on Sunday (4 Sept).

The one-hit shutout completed a perfect 6-0 run for Japan’s U-18 National Team in Taichung, including a 3-1 victory over world No. 3 Korea.

In the bronze medal final, U-18 Asia 2014 champions Korea KO’d China, 14-0.

Along with Asia’s U-18 champions, 2nd Place Chinese Taipei and 3rd Place Korea have qualified to compete For the Title of World Champion at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Thunder Bay, Canada.

Japan took the silver, while Korea earned the bronze at the U-18 Baseball World Cup 2015 in Osaka, Japan.
