KBO players to unite for World No. 8 S. Korea at WBSC Premier12

SEOUL — South Korea will showcase a selection of top players from the nation’s top-tier professional league, Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), to compete at the inaugural WBSC Premier12™ in Japan and Taiwan from 8-21 November.

SEOUL — South Korea will showcase a selection of top players from the nation’s top-tier professional league, Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), to compete at the inaugural WBSC Premier12™ in Japan and Taiwan from 8-21 November.

The Top 12 nations in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings, including No. 8 South Korea, will be competing against each other to determine a unified champion.

Two-time KBO MVP Byungho Park (Nexen Heroes) will help power South Korea. Park hit 47 home runs and set the KBO single-season record for RBIs this year.

Top Korean players, pitcher Rhee Daeeun (Chiba Lotte Marines) and infielder Lee Dae Ho (Fukuoka Softbank Hawks) who are playing in Japan’s premier league, Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), will also be putting on their nation’s jersey in the global baseball showcase.

Also among those making it on the National Team were outfielders Sungbum Na (Dinos; 22 HRs, 22 SB) and Yongkyu Lee (Hanwha Eagles; 27 SB).

South Korea will open the new world baseball competition in Group B against top-ranked Japan on 8 November at the 40,000-seat Sapporo Dome.

Readying for the WBSC Premier12, South Korea will host world no. 3 Cuba for two games to officially open the new Gocheok Sky Dome, the first domed baseball stadium in the nation, on November 4th and 5th.
