LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 set to open tomorrow

The LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup will inaugurate tomorrow (Saturday, 3 September) the newly completed $US 18.1 million Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.

GIJANG, Korea — The LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup will inaugurate tomorrow (Saturday, 3 September) the newly completed $US 18.1 million Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.

The Women’s National Baseball Team of Japan will enter the women’s baseball pinnacle with a 12-game winning streak, dating back to the Women’s Baseball World Cup 2012.  Japan has been ranked No. 1 in the world since 2008, when the nation won the first of four consecutive world titles.  The last time Japan lost a World Cup game was in August of 2012, when the United States prevailed, 5-2, in an Opening Round contest in Edmonton, Canada.

Historic Pakistan Debut

The debut of the Women’s National Baseball Team of Pakistan in the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 has caught the attention of Pakistan’s biggest media giants, including the nation’s leading news, finance and TV outlets, Dawn, Business Recorder and GEO TV, respectively.  The major outlets reach millions of viewers and readers, building interest to follow India’s National Team and the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Pre-World Cup Press Conference

Canadian National Team manager Andre Lachance said in the pre-event press conference Friday in Gijang: “Our National Team can compete with any of the nations here in at the World Cup.”

When asked about Japan’s four consecutive world championship titles, U.S. National Team chief Tim Mayo said: “The past is the past. We are here to go for the gold.”

Following the Opening Round (3-5 Sept.), the top two nations from each Group will advance to the Super Round.
