PANAMA CITY, Panama — Mexico’s National Baseball Team in the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2018 Qualifier, which opens today in Panama, has the strong support of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB) – the country’s top-tier professional league.

The Mexican Under-23 roster is filled with LMB’s top young players, with the Mexico City Diablos Rojos and Sultanes of Monterrey leading with four players selected from their clubs, while three players from the Tijuana Toros made the National Team.

Twelve of LMB’s 16 teams have at least one player on the Mexican U-23 National Team.

“It’s a strong group, and I am fully confident we will take first place,” said Mexican U-23 National Team manager Jose Enrique Reyes.

LMB clubs have been proudly tweeting about the young talented players from their teams who have been selected to the Mexican U-23 National Team – and wishing the team good luck via Twitter.

LMB President Javier Salinas also made a special trip to wish good luck to the Mexican U-23 National Team during their training in Venustiano Carranza, Mexico.

The Mexican squad is completed with minor league players in Major League Baseball (MLB) organizations, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners.

Mexico is the current No. 6 in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings Presented by ENEOS.

Last year’s WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup was hosted in the home stadiums of LMB’s Monterrey Sultanes and Saltillo Saraperos.
