New Providence the big winner at Bahamas softball national championships

New Providence won it all in the Bahamas Softball Federation Round Robin tournament, claiming the championships in both Men’s and Women’s competition. The event concluded this weekend with two new champions crowned Sunday. In the Ladies tournament, New Providence Lady Stingers defeated Gran Bahama Ladies Wolverines; while in the Men’s competition, the Truckers defeated Abaco Bulldogs for the titles.

New Providence won it all in the Bahamas Softball Federation Round Robin tournament, claiming the championships in both Men’s and Women’s competition. The event concluded this weekend with two new champions crowned Sunday. In the Ladies tournament, New Providence Lady Stingers defeated Gran Bahama Ladies Wolverines; while in the Men’s competition, the Truckers defeated Abaco Bulldogs for the titles.

The Lady Stingers from New Providence completed a stellar season at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, carting off the BSF national title with a 12-4 win over the Gran Bahamas Lady Wolverines. The Stinger’s bats came alive in the top of the sixth inning as they broke a close game open with eight runs to take a 12-4 lead.

Clean-up batter Keisha Pratt won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, as she finished 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored. Thela Johnson went the distance for the Lady Sitngers for the victory, while Salaika Williams suffered the loss.

New Providence had to beat Eleuthera by 10-4 in the semi-final game to advance to the final. Eleuthera won the Bronze in this tournament.

In the Men’s competition, New Providence beat the two-time defending champions, Abaco Bulldogs, by 4-1 to claim the title. Thomas Davis took the victory for the Truckers, while Lyle Sawyers finished on the wrong side of the record.

Abaco arrived to the final game after a clear 12-0 victory over Andros in the semi final.
