Nicaragua defeated Panama, 17-11, before a packed Roberto Clemente Youth Baseball Stadium and national TV/Radio audience.

Nicaraguan National Baseball Team wins its historic first-ever U-10 Americas crown.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Nicaragua defeated Panama, 17-11, in the Final of the XX U-10 Pan-Am Baseball Championship 2016 before a packed Roberto Clemente Youth Baseball Stadium and national TV/Radio audience.

The host nation jumped out to a 14-1 lead before Panama scored 10 unanswered runs across the 5th and 6th innings. Nicaragua scored three insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning.

World No. 18 Nicaragua went undefeated (7-0) in the 38-game continental championship to capture the nation’s first-ever gold medal in the U-10 Pan-Am Championship.

No 15. Panama’s (5-2) only losses in the youth tournament came at the hands of Nicaragua, as the silver medal winners also fell to the host nation in the Group Stage.

In the bronze medal match, No. 8 Mexico defeated No. 15 Brazil, 4-3.

Semi-finals

Group A winner Nicaragua defeated Brazil, 5-4, to open the semi-finals Saturday.

Panama then edged Mexico, 5-4, in their semi-final contest, setting up the Final against Nicaragura.  Group B winner Mexico had entered the semi-finals undefeated.

The U-10 Pan-Am Baseball Championship is the only international competition to feature National Teams in this age category — which is the youngest in the sports world.

At the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2015 — the only U-12 team sport world championship — Nicaragua won the bronze medal.

The U-10 Pan-Am Championship 2016 in Managua was organised by the Nicaraguan Baseball Federation (FENIBA) in collaboration with the Pan-American Baseball Confederation (COPABE) — WBSC’s baseball arm in the Americas.
