In front of more than 5,000 fans at Estadio Adolfo Lopez Mateos, Mexico’s youth National Team defeated their counterparts representing the nation of Panama, 9-2, in the final of the U-14 Pan-American Baseball Championship 2016.

REYNOSA, Mexico — In front of more than 5,000 fans at Estadio Adolfo Lopez Mateos, Mexico’s youth National Team defeated their counterparts representing the nation of Panama, 9-2, in the final of the XX U-14 Pan-American Baseball Championship 2016.

“It was a very competitive tournament,” Panama manager Jose Murillo told awaiting reporters at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport. “And in the final, we couldn’t get [the offence] going against a strong host nation.”

The continental crown for Mexico improves upon the nation’s 2nd Place finish in 2014, when Venezuela claimed the top prize.

In the bronze medal match, No. 16 Brazil defeated No. 18 Nicaragua, 3-0.

The U-14 continental youth championship was hosted by the Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE) and the Reynosa Municipal Institute of Sport, in collaboration with the Pan-American Baseball Confederation (COPABE) — WBSC’s baseball arm in the Americas.

The Americas Championship in the U-14 category does not have any weight on the WBSC world rankings, as it does not serve as a qualifier for the U-15 Baseball World Cup®.
