LAHORE, Pakistan – The Pakistan Federation of Baseball staged a baseball game at Punjab Stadium on Monday, 4 April, as part of the official two-week sports programme in Pakistan to celebrate the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

IDSDP, an annual celebration, was launched by the United Nations (UN) on 6 April 2014.

The 2016 IDSDP programme in Pakistan is being overseen by the UN Islamabad Centre, the Higher Education Commission, the Pakistan Sports Board, and the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

“The main purpose of this [baseball] match is to create awareness about the role and power of sports for developing human values and creating peace, goodwill and harmony,” PFB stated.

The presidents of the PFB and POA attended the game at Punjab Stadium.

Other IDSDP activities in Pakistan include football (soccer), handball, rock climbing, table tennis and volleyball.

The Pakistan National Baseball Team, winner of the 2015 West Asia Baseball Cup, is currently ranked No. 23 in the world and No. 5 in Asia.
