The 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games will be held in Barranquilla, Colombia, from July 20 to August 3, 2018. These Games is a multi-sport event held every four years since 1926 in different cities and countries from Central American and Caribbean Sea region and is the oldest regional multi-sport event in the world. The event is coordinated by the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (ODECABE).
The Pan American Championship qualifies six teams to Barranquilla, one of them destined to the English Caribbean area, and the other five for the best qualified teams from the region. For ECASC, Bahamas advanced to the Games being fifth in Pool B.
In the general standings, Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala have already qualified, and during the playoffs will seek to clinch a spot in Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The last team will be decided between the Dominican Republic and Panama. The host team finished the round robin with a 3-4 record; however, in Pool B Panama has a 2-4 record, and still has to play a postponed game against Mexico. If Panama wins this game, they will force a tie with the Dominican Republic, and a tiebreaker game between the two teams with the ticket to Barranquilla at stake.
The last edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games was in Veracruz, Mexico, in 2014, where Venezuela won the Gold Medal, Mexico the Silver Medal, and Cuba the Bronze.
