Not only baseball, but women’s baseball continues to experience global gains in development.  Women’s baseball is perhaps the fastest growing form of baseball/softball, given how relatively new and emerging the discipline is.

The latest development in women’s baseball comes from Guam. After sending one team to Hong Kong last year to compete in the Phoenix Cup, an international women’s baseball tournament, two clubs from Guam are heading to Phoenix Cup 2017 (17-20 February).

The success of last year’s team from Guam in the Phoenix Cup has raised the profile of women’s baseball on the island, causing the need for more teams and prompting Guam’s biggest newspaper, the Pacific Daily News, to feature on article on the development.  Also pushing growth is the Guam Women’s Baseball Cup, which was launched in 2015.

The Phoenix Cup, an event sanctioned by the WBSC, is hosted by the Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA) and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

Club-teams based out of Australia, China, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan will compete in the Phoenix Cup 2017.
