To celebrate the Women’s International Day, the British Softball Federation (BSF) announced today its roster for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship, to be held in Chiba, Japan, from 2-12 August this year. This is the beginning of the British run to claim a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, either in the World Championship (one ticket available for the world champion) or in future qualifiers.

The No. 14 Great Britain Women’s National Team advanced to Chiba in the 2017 European Championship, played in Bollate, Italy, last year. In a thrilling playoff game, they scored three runs in the ninth inning to beat Czech Republic by 4-1, and clinch a ticket to the World Championship. In the last day of competition, Great Britain lost 8-1 against Italy to finish in the third place.

The last World Championship appearance for Great Britain was in the 2016 WBSC Women’s World Championship, held in Surrey, Canada, when they ended with a 2-5 record, in the 13th place.

This year Great Britain will also participate in the newly announced European Super Six tournament, to be played at Hoofddorp in the Netherlands from 19-23 September.
