Puerto Rico secured yesterday the baseball gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018, with two days of competition remaining. The Puerto Rican squad won the first five games of the tournament to clinch the top spot in the podium and the classification to Lima 2019. This is the first gold for Puerto Rico in the CACG since San Salvador 2002.

However, the emotions in the baseball event are not over yet. The fight for the second place will remain strong until the last pitch of the event, not only to clinch the silver medal in the regional Games, but also to earn the second berth available for the Pan American Games Lima 2019.

With only six games to be played, Cuba is alone in second place with a 4-2 record. However, Colombia (3-2), Panama (3-3), Dominican Republic (2-3) and Venezuela (2-3) still have chances to move to the second position.
