USA Baseball announced that the U-18 National Team Trials will happen in Los Angeles, California, from 13 to 17 August. A total of 45 players will be invited to Camp.
40 participants to the Trials were selected out of a pool of 80 athletes that participated in the first ever Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP)
Five players were selected from the 2018 National Team Identification Series (NTIS).
In addition, a select number of players from the upcoming U-17 National Team Development Programme (NTDP) could be chosen to compete for a spot on the USA U-18 National Team.
“We are extremely honoured to announce this group,” said 1U-18 National Team Programme Director Frank Jagoda. “This was an incredibly difficult decision and speaks volumes to the depth of talent our country has to offer. The hard work truly begins now and we cannot wait to get back together in Los Angeles in August.”
The final 20-man roster will be named on 17 August and will compete in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2019, to be played in Gijang City, South Korea, from 30 August to 8 September.
The USA National Team is the four-time defending World Champions.
American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Famer Jack Legget was confirmed earlier this year the U-18 USA Baseball National Team manager. Scott Bankhead (North Carolina Baseball Academy) will be his pitching coach. Gregg Ritchie (George Washington University) will serve as the hitting coach. Gerald Laird (manager of the St. Louis Cardinals A short-season affiliate) will round out the staff as an assistant coach.
