Team USA got their second win of the U-12 Baseball World Cup beating 10-0 Nicaragua in a 5 inning game delayed by a tropical shower and then cut shorter by a 7 run rally on a lonely hit in the bottom half of the first. After starter Owen Egan escaped an early jam, USA took full advantage of contro struggles by pitchers Toruno and Carballo. Egan helped himself with the only hit.
When first baseman Atomanczyk hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, it resulted in the third hit by the defending champions. His powerful swing highlighted the second half of the game together with an impressive throw to first that shortstop Caranto used to get the out on Nicaragua thirdbaseman Torrentes in the top of the fourth.
Chinese Taipei needed only 4 innings to outscore (18-0) South Africa on 13 hits and taking advantage of 7 defensive errors.
Chiao Chia Cheng, Yang Sheng Wei and Chien Yu En combined for a 4 inning no hitter. Defense didn’t have much work to do, since the pitchers struck out 11 out of 12 total outs.
