USA Softball announced that Gregg Leather will serve as Head Coach for the 2019 USA Softball Men’s National Team. Selected by members of the USA Softball Men’s National Team Selection Committee, Leather will lead the Red, White and Blue at select events on the 2019 schedule.

“It’s an honour to continue to serve as the Head Coach of the USA Softball Men’s National Team,” said Leather on his selection. “Our showing in Prague at the Intercontinental Cup was not what we had hoped for, but was a good event to learn from and see areas we need to improve upon heading into next year. Overall, we are excited for the upcoming season and I have high expectations for our squad in 2019.”

Leather was first selected as Assistant Coach for the Men’s National Team in the 2014 season and continued serving under Hall of Fame Head Coach Denny Bruckert, helping guide the U.S. at two World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Men’s World Championships and the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. Since stepping into the role of Head Coach following Bruckert’s resignation in August of 2017, Leather led the U.S. to a Bronze Medal finish at the 2017 Pan American Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the first international medal for the program since 2003.

“We’re honoured to once again have Gregg Leather as the Head Coach of the Men’s National Team program,” said USA Softball Executive Director, Craig Cress. “The Men’s National Team Program has made great strides to develop the talent across the U.S. thanks in large to the efforts of Coach Leather and other individuals across the U.S. to provide as many opportunities as possible for athletes to continue to play at a high level.  We look forward to having Coach Leather at the helm to lead the efforts in getting the U.S. back atop the podium in 2019.”

The USA Men’s Softball National Team will participate in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship 2019, to be held in Prague and Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic, from 13-23 June; and the Pan American Games Lima 2019.
